Consumables and Wear Parts

With warehouses and industry partners located around the world, we’re able to support our customers with the day-to-day inventory of consumables and wear parts they rely on to keep their operation running 24/7. This includes all knives and knife-pack components for our stranding rings and discs, as well as debarking blocks and other replaceable wear parts.

Critical Spares and Assembly Packages

In addition to consumables and wear parts, our warehouses stock many of the long lead time and critical components, such as bearings and assembly packages, to complement our customers’ critical spares stock. Our assembly packages are designed to help streamline your maintenance and parts ordering procedures, saving time and simplifying the process. Many of our assembly packages are eligible for our refurbishing program, where we rebuild worn assemblies for you to keep on stock as a critical spare.

Refurbishing Program

As equipment wears, it will eventually require replacement, but in many cases additional service life can be attained through rebuilding or refurbishment. Kadant Carmanah offers this service for most of the major components and assemblies on our stranders, including rings, discs, nutrunner assemblies, anvils, and wheel assemblies, to name a few. The benefits of refurbishing can be considerable, particularly when used to supplement a customer’s inventory of critical spares.

Field Services

Proactive Inspections

To help promote machine safety while minimizing potential downtime, Kadant Carmanah offers a comprehensive inspection program for every machine we have in operation around the world. Our experienced and highly trained technical service reps complete the inspections on-site, and follow up with a detailed service report with a full overview of the machine’s condition, including a summary of high priority and normal priority actions. We recommend scheduling an inspection as part of each machine’s annual maintenance interval, to ensure all your equipment is kept in safe working condition and operating at its peak performance.

Best Practice Training

Our hands-on, best practice training is ideal for mill customers who’ve undergone staffing changes, and serve as a good reminder for machine operators and maintenance technicians on how to get the best life and performance out of their equipment. For our stranding customers, this includes best practice training for knife changes, in addition to the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually recommended maintenance scheduling.

Strander and Batch Feeder Optimization

For our stranding customers that process batch-fed, cut-to-length logs, one of the best ways to ensure you’re reaching your full operational capacity is to perform a process audit. Our field service team will observe strander and batch feeder cycle times, the pocket loading and infeed areas, routine knife changes, and strand quality samples, delivering actionable recommendations on how to reach maximum efficiency and unlock any hidden production potential.

Troubleshooting

Within the log processing industry, any changes to the raw log’s characteristics can have a drastic effect on the efficiency and quality of the byproduct you are trying to produce. In many instances, we’re able to provide guidance on how to optimize your machine when you’re faced with raw log supply issues outside of your control, such as frozen wood, dry wood, low moisture content wood, crooked logs, small diameter logs, and mixed species.

Installation and Startup

At Kadant Carmanah, we offer installation advisory service for every strander, debarker, and chipper we design and manufacture. Our work begins early in the preplanning stages, ensuring our machines and their components are delivered on time in excellent working condition, in an organized and methodical manner for quick installation. We provide hands-on training during the commissioning stage, and our team of automation controls specialists remain on-site to ensure a trouble-free startup that meets your production schedule.

Major Component Removal, Rebuild, and Replacement

Our equipment has proven to last decades in the field. One way our longstanding customers can extend the life of their machines is by refurbishing major components and assemblies into their critical spares stock. We provide a service where we oversee the safe removal and replacement of your major component, and arrange for the worn component to be returned to our shop to be refurbished and rebuilt for you to re-stock.
